Assesments
We utilize a combination of neuropsychological testing coupled with quantified electroencephalograph (Q EEG) that allows us to measure not only the health of the brain but also its functionality. In when using neuropsychological testing we employed traditional and widely accepted assessment tools such as the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale or the Wechsler memory scale. We combined these assessments with computerized testing that includes the Conners continuous performance test or the CNS vital signs. We also important can assess for executive functions using the Dallas Kaplan executive functioning battery. Once we have established certain cognitive functions we then measure the electrical activity coming off the brain using computational EEG head maps. We employ a particular type of EEG known as an event -related potential (ERP). The ERP measures brain processing speed and efficiency. They are highly sensitive biomarkers that have been shown to reflect functional abnormalities even prior to symptom onset. We derive specific and objective brain biomarkers from the computational EEG that provides insights into how the brain is functioning. For example, we measure peak alpha frequency parentheses PAF that reflects cognitive capacity and physiological aging. We also take a look at the beta/beta ratio which reflects inattention and is FDA cleared to aid in the diagnosis of ADHD.
The combination of EEG coupled with neuropsychological testing allows us to provide an in-depth analysis of and injured workers cognitive health. Quite often cognitive diminishment is an overlooked symptom in the in the Worker’s Compensation arena. We specialize in objectively evaluating for cognitive deficits and then we plan treatment strategies to enhance injured workers overall cognitive health.
